This is the index to pages for my trip to Sydney, Australia in October 2002. I only got about 3 weeks' notice that I had to fly to Sydney and teach a 4-day training course to one of our customers (Optus -- one of the largest Australian telecom companies) on how to operate the control system of the satellite we're selling to them. Then, with the other work I was doing, I ended up only having less than a week before I left to actually prepare for the class. For the first 6 days I was over there (a weekend and then the 4 days of training) I did nothing at all but work, eat, sleep, and drive -- it was quite stressful and exhausting. But the students seemed to think I did a good job, and then after that I took 3 days of personal time to explore the area and really enjoyed myself. Overall I liked Sydney a lot, it reminded me of San Francisco in many ways (geography, weather, friendly people), so I felt pretty comfortable there. By the time I left I was able to get around pretty well by car, ferry, and/or train. (Note: I apologize in advance, but these pages are not very modem-friendly, each page will take a couple of minutes to load over a 56k modem. But I know most of you have high-speed access either at home and/or at work, and, there were just too many pictures I wanted to put in...) Click on the page you'd like to see: By the way, before I left I bought the "Sydney Condensed" tour book from Lonely Planet, and I really liked it, it's small enough to fit in your pocket, but has a good overview of the city, information on major things to see, and some very good fold-out maps. |
