Not too exotic, but pretty. The chimps had a very nice, large exhibit, that reminded me of the chimp exhibit at the L.A. zoo. You can see the windows at the far side where people and chimps can get inches apart on opposite sides. These were some kind of mountain sheep. When I first walked up, they were going crazy, running in circles around and around their exhibit area, up the hill, down the hill, up the hill, down the hill. They were very agile on the rough terrain. The baby was panting from all of the running around. This tiger crouched when it saw me as if tensing to attack, but then started closing its eyes and falling asleep. Some places in the zoo had very nice views. This is the small amphitheater where they have the "free flight" bird shows, where the birds fly over the audience's heads. I took the ferry back to downtown. It had been an overcast day, with very dull lighting all day, but just minutes before the sun set it came through under the clouds and lit up the opera house. The shadow at the bottom left is from a building on the other side of the water, where I was standing. |
