The big grey/brown area in the middle of the trees is the mark of a
landslide which is next to Emerald Bay. Apparently it first occurred
in the early 1900's, then a much bigger one happened in the mid-1900's
and the effects can still be seen. The road around the lake cuts
right across the middle of the bare area.
