This page and the three related pages have pictures from the Great Reno Balloon Race of 1998, which we went to during our Tahoe trip.  I had never seen hot air balloons in person before.  It was a blast!

This is the five "dawn patrol" baloons being inflated before dawn.  Whenever the pilot would fire a burner, the balloon would light up like a light bulb.  It was very pretty.

Here are the dawn patrol baloons again, filled with enough hot air that they're starting to stand up.

Here is the dawn patrol in the air.  Every couple of minutes the show announcer would count down from 10 and all five balloon pilots would light their burners at once.  It was really neat.  You can also see the strobe lights hanging from each balloon for safety.

Another balloon launching at dawn.
